Toast to a New Year

Let’s ring in the New Year with a fun sparkling juice to share with your family! To make some kid-friendly bubbles to toast with this New Years Eve, mix together:
● 1 cup apple juice
● 1 cup grape juice (white or red)
● 2 cups sparkling water or club soda

Try to choose “no added sugar” juices and make sure to serve over lots of ice! Cheers to a great 2025 ahead!

New Years Resolutions

The New Year is the perfect time to create new goals to build healthy habits, so why not make some as a family this year? Write down 1-2 goals in a common room (where everyone can see it!) like the kitchen; make sure they are obtainable and everyone is bought-in to prioritizing them.
- Planning, preparing, and/or eating meals together each week
- Volunteering together as a family each month
- Setting aside time for practicing gratitude each day
- Limiting screen time each day
- Enjoying playing an activity or watching a movie together each month

Making Sense of Food Labels

Reading food labels, although very confusing at first, is a simple way to make informed choices about the foods your family eats. Focus on the ingredient list and look for whole, recognizable foods while avoiding added sugars, artificial dyes, and preservatives. Pay attention to serving sizes and key nutrients like fiber, protein, and sodium to ensure balance. Teaching your kids to read labels can also empower them to make healthier choices as they grow! Check out the American Heart Association’s guide to understanding these tricky labels.

Unplug at the Table

Screens—whether TVs, tablets, phones, or computers—can be useful distractions at times, but they may cause more harm than good during meals. Eating while distracted can lead to overeating or undereating, disrupt digestion, and encourage unhealthy habits like picky eating or long-term reliance on screens during meals. While it’s a common habit for many families, it’s one worth breaking. Gradually reducing screen time, especially during meals, can help foster mindful eating and healthier habits for the whole family. Find a great place to start with these simple steps and comprehensive ideas!
